Re: wanting to look at getting a blue tounged sink

I don't know much about their care only mild research. But moving with reptiles over borders can be very difficult and tedious. If you're moving in the near future I would get it in Canada. There are...

Re: Boa won't stay on heat

Snakes will move from the hot to cold side to regulate as they see fit. If digesting they are more likely to spend more time by a heat source to help them. If they never left the hot spot it would...

Re: 20 long and 10!!!

I don't have any frog experience. I'm mostly a snake guy.

Just an FYI a male hognose would fit just fine in a 20 long. Hardly notice a little worm burrowing under the bedding.

Re: What snake do you recommend as the next step up from beginner?

King cobra

8-15' is a huge range and there is a wide variety in terms of body build even within the same length. Small snakes give you next to no useful experience for dealing with...

Re: Total newbie - lots of questions

Another thing to consider is BPs change a lot colour wise with age. Generally not for the better. Unlike most snakes that colour up or get nicer, BPs often lose colour and fade out. I would look for...

Re: 20 long and 10!!!

Oh I thought you meant a 20 liter tank. A crested would be okay in one if turned on end.

Re: Total newbie - lots of questions

Welcome

A snakes activity level varies wildly by species and individuals. My BP is the most active snake I had at night. He will cruise his cage and be generally curious about what's around him....

Re: 20 long and 10!!!

Are you sure you're not confusing liters with gallons? 20L is 5 US gallons which is a very small tank. Many people will keep lizards in 10g tanks but not adults in 5.

Re: 20 long and 10!!!

I don't know of any snakes or lizards that can live in a track that small. You'd need to have a larger cage.

Re: Are Bi's good first snakes?

A BCI is a great first snake in the sense they have a few good qualities that cater well to newbies. They eat well, shed well, generally docile and easy to handle.

Few things to consider is are...

Re: In which country can you own a venomous snake without any certificate?

The venomous world is very hush hush and isn't quick to accept newcomers. You'd have to look up the local, region or country laws pertaining to exotic pets.

Re: Arboreal (or mostly arboreal) snakes for novices

I have both a Jag carpet with IJ blood and an ATB. Neither one is nippy, they are both quite chill. Generally they are curious through glass and would rather flee when touched instead of fight. They...

I'd contact Bob at proproducts and see what they recommend for a panel.

Look up "my Canadian herps", they are brothers out of Colburne. They do drive throughs on Sundays through the GTA. They have rats, mice and asf. Been getting my feeders from them for awhile. I buy...

Re: 125 Red Tail Boa Enclosure

The only thing I can think of is building a wood frame top with straps running across it to keep it down. A bit unsightly and you'd have to be sure that A the top doesn't flex B the straps are tight...

Re: Live prey issues

Where abouts do you live? You could try asking on local groups, not all stores carry asf but some breeders without a traditional storefront have them. That's how I get mine.

Re: Live prey issues

I would look into whether or not you can get ASF in your area. They are considered like candy to most snakes so an FT ASF might work. My supplier has them over 120g.

Re: New kingsnake owner with a few questions

Most snakes will benefit from UV light. You could have a simple bulb in a fixture ontop of the screen. The snake will decide how much exposure they want.

Grey banded kings are among the smallest...

Re: Sometimes an Animal's Reputation Can Delay Progress

Being calm when handling and smooth movements will also help with nervous animals. Fast jerks will make things worse, definitely keep tap training when doing regular maintenance even if you're just...

Re: Question? Cage To big

A large cage is easily done with extra clutter. You can start it off in the 10g and move up later with growth.

Re: Question about using predatory mites against snake mites

That is very weird, from what I know the predatory mites hunt the other mites until they are all gone and then go after each other. It's very strange that the other mites outlasted them.

Re: RHP Size/Wattage?

I would contact Bob at proproducts, he'll need cage size, material, venting, ambient conditions, and what is being kept in it. I have an rhp in a smaller cage now. So yours won't be an issue.

It's not walking a dog down the street. The act has no benefit to the snake. I've only taken a few of mine outside in the backyard. I've gotten all mine as babies so I haven't taken most out due to...

Re: Mouser BP

If available try asf. You can get far larger adults compared to mice so it will be better suited long term.
