scenting pinkies with bufo americanus (american toad)
I have a baby hog who weighs 8 grams and is not eating. I have had her for about 8 weeks and she has not eaten once. I have tried live, live scented with tuna, frozen, frozen scented with tuna, scented with salmon, and scented with makrel. I also bumped up the cage temps to about 86 °F. She is on carefresh bedding in a small exo terra (12 x12 inch) cage. Now I wanted go try a toad but want to make sure that ot is not going to kill my hoggie. Is the American toad ok to use?

Yes, you can use American toads. A scent that has never failed me yet is green tree frog. That is all I use when scenting. They are cheap, easy to find in any pet store, and work the best out of any other scent.

Thanks Green tree frogs are much easier to find than American toads. Now just to be clear, I can just rub a pinky on the frog without killing the frog (opposed to grinding the frog up and soaking the pinky) i know that rubbing the pinky on the frog will not kill the frog.

You can try doing that first. It might transfer enough scent onto the pinkie. However, in my experience, rubbing the pinkie on a live frog is not enough most of the time.

Ok, I will bother you with one more question before ibget my frog. Are red eyed green tree frogs ok (that is what is at the pet store,or should it be an American green tree frog?
