Would you guise post pics of your Iguana cages for me, I am wanting to get an idea on what to build for the little guy im getting. And is a screen cage better or a sealed enclosure better. The breeder said screen is better, just wanting you guise opinion.

Re: Iguana Enclosures

My cage is being worked on. Imo a solid enclosure is better with a vent on the bottom and a vent on top for proper air flow. Its very hard to get proper humidity in a screen cage.

Re: Iguana Enclosures

You ever thought about free roam? Are there children or other pets in the house?

They can't be free roaming 100% of their lives, they need an enclosure they can go to for things like heat humidity and defecation.

I know that iguanas require high humidity (60-75%) so I don't know why so many people recommend or allow consistent free roaming.

I would go for a large, sealed enclosure.

Re: Iguana Enclosures

The need for a large sealed enclosure is what has kept me from getting one. Just don't have the room for the size cage needed for a full grown one. Has been my dream reptile for decades.

I don't know anyone who knows their needs would suggest a screen - like Owl said, they need high humidity. You aren't going to get that with a screen. I don't know anyone who keeps their house at 75% humidity with temperatures in the 90s. And I'm thankful for that - I wouldn't be visiting them too often.

Re: Iguana Enclosures

My first reptile was a green iguana which my dad made a screen enclosure and did very well in it, but because I live in south florida humidity is usually always above 70% and didnt have to worry about it.

Re: Iguana Enclosures

Iguanas do not need constant high humidity. That can cause problems. Thease are not monitors they don't need a sealed enclosure. With a sealed enclosure theres no way for humidity to escape.

Re: Iguana Enclosures

I wasn't suggesting a sealed, air tight enclosure. I meant a closed, solid wall, non-screen enclosure.
