Could a 6-8' Boaphile cage, with a radiant heat panel and florescent light installed, make a suitable enclosure for a smaller monitor species? I'm not even planning on getting a new monitor anytime soon, but I'm kinda curious.
Won't hold the deep substrate they need. You would have to do some pretty serious modifications. Also, radiant heat panels aren't hot enough for monitors. Most need a basking area of 140+.
For monitors it is worth it to build the enclosure. If you buy one that is already built it will probably cost $700+ If you build one you can make them for under 300
