Importing Lace Monitors?
In the Bronx Zoo thread Crocdoc said that he saw two juvenile lace monitors(I assume in Australia) before they were shipped to the Bronx Zoo. I thought that Australia stopped exporting?

Some are gradually making the way in from Europe... be patient.
I know of a bell phase pair that came in a few months ago, they are already placed.

Who did those go to anyways? I had hoped John and Gregg would keep and breed them.. I hope they went to someone who knows what they're doing.

I don't know about "Legit" but to the best of my knowledge, Oz has export restrictions, other countries have no such restrictions, as they are not a native species anywhere but Australia.
Crocdoc is the one to ask, he would know better than any of us.

all i can really tell you is that over here in the uk, imports and exports are strictly controlled and monitored and usually, only venomous animals are location checked (because of lisencing laws here) but i cant really tell you what species requires what for it to be exported.
i will tell you this, the conditions in which the animals are packed in are scrutinized to the highest of extents (they open every crate and check every animal, regardless of what it is) and if anything is wrong, it will be corrected or if major, they will prosecute the shipper.

There is a healthy amount in EU now I personaly know of 10 within the EU and at least two people maybe a third has pairs. One seems to breed them every year. If everything goes to plan i'm sure your start to see many many more over the next few years though how many get to US i'm not sure. Though as already said at least two are there

I spoke to a guy at a reptile show this weekend who said he had bells here in the US so their is hope for others to get them but may take a while.

I can not say who has them because the guy is private. All I can say is that we would have not sold them to someone who was not 100% capable of doing what we would be able to do with them.
And dont worry, we will have our own pair to work with soon. Most likely by summer.

Gotta figure anyone with, and willing to spend, that kind of money on them is going to be taking care of them like they were his own children. Cant wait to see yours when you get them.
