Carpet Python weight?
My carpet has been refusing food for several months, and has begun to lose weight. I am positive he is 100% fine, and I think he was actually somewhat overweight before. However, my brother apparently thinks he's dying and needs to be force fed, and won't quit pestering me. Therefore, let's hear your opinions, to hopefully stop his worrying. Or to correct my assumptions, if that is the case. He is somewhere between six and seven feet.
Here he was before:
Here he is now:

Re: Carpet Python weight?
Four or five months. I can get him eating again if I need to, no problem. He was already around three when I got him, and had been fed nothing but live. He's only turned down frozen, he'll take a live one the instant he sees one.

I agree , he looks fine. Carpets do this so don't worry. When he goes back on food he will eat like mad. Mine do

Re: Carpet Python weight?
Thank you Shaun, that's what I was thinking. He always seemed a bit too heavy before, that first picture above doesn't show it well.
He's a red coastal, not sure about his age, he is probably around four or five. Not sure who produced him. We picked him up at a local store which had him since he was a hatchling.

Out of curiosity, how much do you feed yours? Darwin used to get a large rat every two weeks, I'm thinking I'll cut it back to every three weeks once he's eating again.

Re: Carpet Python weight?
winter i offer only 3 or 4 feeds
the rest of the time,1 large prey item every 15 to 30 days
if i get wild caught prey, birds, squirrels, small rabbits, etc, and they are quite small,i'll give them a couple of prey items per feed
cheers shaun

Re: Carpet Python weight?
I feed my carpet about every 2 to 3 weeks , although i feed him last night , and that was his first meal since the middle of December . He seems to do that most every year , where he goes a good few months without eating. Tracy.

I know that, I was just trying to put his worries to rest before he tries anything when I'm not around.
