Holy crap surprise monitor

My dad just ordered a baby Savannah monitor offline and it will be here on Tuesday. I'm not sure how to feel about this. I was going to wait a long time before getting another, like 4 months at least. What do I do to prepare for him or her? I have two cages. Should I put him in the big one or the small one. I really dont know what to do. I should be happy but I'm crying right now. I cant believe my parents lack of hope or their thinking Amusei can be replaced.

Re: Holy crap surprise monitor

OK, I am going to say this....

Not so long ago our beloved monitor "Chomper" who had been a wonderful lizard passed away, We were devastated, we never thought we could do this over again, but I went ahead and got me new ones.

The joy we are having raising these lizards up has really eased the pain of losing Chomper, so I say go for it, Chin up and focus on the new baby.

I personally would recommend the larger cage, you will have a lot of fun.. and in time you will be too happy raising this one to drive yourself crazy thinking about the other.

Read over my web site, everything you need to know is right there at your fingertips.

Re: Holy crap surprise monitor

Thanks what you've said has made me feel a bit better. I just cant believe my dad just went ahead and got another monitor. I didn't even ask and I told him the next time I wanted a lizard I would buy it myself. I have already begun setting up the cage for the little one. I have settled down a bit and am not so upset. The main thing on my mind now is what my dad would do if Amusei came back lol. Then I'd have two amazing little guys.

Good luck with the new baby monitor... can't wait to see pics when he arrives.
I still hope Amusei comes back though...

Re: Holy crap surprise monitor

One thing. I hate stating the obvious, but pleae make sure your enclosure is escape proof in every way.

Seal all cracks and crevices down good.

Monitors are like rats in the respect of escaping, they can get into amazingly tight spots.

I saw a fully grown adult monitor squeeze himself through a gap under 2 inches wide, and it didn't really take him much effort to do it.
