Good monitors
Okay so as some of you know my little one Amusei has gone missing. I have looked everywhere and have seen no sign of him and decided I need to try not to get too upset over him or I wont be able to function for weeks. I will hope and wait for him to return or see sign of him but its like finding a needle in a hay stack. Once I get a job I will save up money to get another monitor if he doesn't return to me alive. What kind of lizards do the lot of you suggest? White and black throats, crocodiles, and niles are illegal in my state. I am also interested in tegus, blue tongued skinks, green ameivas, and iguanas. I will probably get another rough neck but what else do you recommend as far as monitors go? They are by far my favorite kind of reptile.

Re: Good monitors
my wife's plated lizard showed up after 1 month once. Had a monitor get into my wall. the hole to retrieve him is still there. Had a chameleon decide to go looking for a place to lay eggs, she was found up stairs in our room by the babies crib(she finally layed them in her lay container and they are currantly in the incubator). They do tend to show up in places you'd least expect them to.

Re: Good monitors
Wouldn't the first step after trying/waiting to find him be getting a better enclosure?

Re: Good monitors
Your monitor has only been missing for one day. I seriously think you should relax and continue looking for him before you start jumping on to getting a new monitor. I know it's not easy to know Amusei is missing, but don't give up just yet. I think Amusei deserves more than 1 day of searching before you give up on him like that and go to the next monitor. Keep your chin up and keep searching every day. Put out a frozen/thawed mouse, or his favorite treats. Put flour on the door ways and check to see if you can track any movement across rooms. Good luck & stay optimistic

Re: Good monitors
Good idea with the flour. I have put food out for him and its been untouched, I've looked everywhere too. I just don't know what to do, I cant think about him without crying. I remember the day I got him. I knew he was perfect because when the store owner picked him up he was hissing and clawing, but as soon as he was in my hands he went perfectly calm and just looked at me as if wondering who I was. I remember once I was holding him and he fell asleep on my lap. He's stunning and irreplaceable. I have no coping skills when It comes to pet loss. I cant deal with this. There is a huge space missing in my house and the only way for me to cope is to take care of something. I don't even want to live right now. he was the only thing keeping me happy.

Re: Good monitors
Don't Worry He will show up No Need To Kill Yourself with horrible thoughts just look around and make a few plans to lay out once the night time rolls around to see if what you planned like some bait will work to get him back

I can understand the panic. My pets are basically what keep me sane. Not too long ago, my newest snake (Pika, an albino ball python) had gotten out of his enclosure. I had been gone for 24 hours before I came home and realized that he was missing. It was still winter, and the previous night had been pretty cold. I had no idea how long he'd been out for, nor if he had died overnight because I'd turned off all the other heat sources in my apartment while I was gone. I panicked and cried-- and by cried, I mean I sobbed as if I'd just lost a parent. I cried really, really hard. I practically live for my animals, and it tore me inside to know he was gone. I searched everywhere (or so I'd thought). A good friend of mine offered to come over and help me look. While I went to go pick her up, my boyfriend arrived at my apartment and found Pika within 5 minutes of searching. Who knew! He was fine, healthy, not as cold as I expected, and everything returned to normal. So I can relate to panicking because your pet is missing.
But don't give up just yet. Use all the techniques you know of to get him back. Give yourself the chance to find him. It's only been a day. I would search for several weeks before I'd ever give up on finding a missing pet. So set out all the techniques you can fathom, and understand that he is out there and waiting to be found. Check the most obscure areas-- I think I remember Wayne mentioning he'd once found his missing monitor in a pile of laundry. And BB offered that you should search by looking up too... he could've climbed up something. Even if you think "no, there's no way he went there," that's exactly where you should check.
It might even help to get a friend to come help you look. Someone who's not as panicked and can offer a fresh look at the area. Good luck. Keep searching.

Re: Good monitors
Thank you very much for the support alessia55. Its nice to know there is someone who understands how I feel. My problem is how pessimistic I am, I always think things are hopeless and worse then they are. It doesn't help that my parents are being terribly negative and unsupportive. My mom asked me when I was going to empty out his cage.

You can just call me Alessia
You need to put that negativity aside for the sake of Amusei. Keep your chin up and search, search, search! Get friends to help you... like I said, a fresh pair of eyes might be what you need.
