Main difference between a Hog Island and a Dumeril?

Hello, I am just looking to get info on the main differences between the Hog Island Boa and a Dumeril's boa. I am planning on getting one or the other most likely so any info about either or any big differences will be helpful. The viv i plan on using is 48Lx24Dx12H, so was also wondering if this would work for either snake;full grown.

Thanks for any help.

You could fit any male BCI in there

12" high is a little low isn't it? From what mark (gonesnakee) said 18" high would be the minimum. Other than that I know nothing about dums but a hogg's husbandry is pretty similar to other bci I think.

That's true good catch Kevin I think 16" is usually a standard height

Re: Main difference between a Hog Island and a Dumeril?

Hogs get to the same size and are just as sturdy bodied. Then again there are always exceptions there is a keeper with dumrils on here (exiwizard) that has one much bigger than any hog I've seen.

Hog island boas are BCIs so most ave a pretty good temperament though that Is an individual thing.

A female hogg may get to 6 or 7 feet but an eight foot female would be massive.

Re: Main difference between a Hog Island and a Dumeril?

Aside from how radically different they look from one another and how far apart their natural distributions are, the size is the main difference. A Dumeril's can get quite a bit larger than your average Hogg Island will.

Temperament and requirement-wise, they're very similar but the buck stops there as far as I'm concerned

Re: Main difference between a Hog Island and a Dumeril?

I think it's a personal choice personally I would take a hog island over a dumrils

Re: Main difference between a Hog Island and a Dumeril?

Hoggs would be my choice..I have owned and bred dumerils.I currently own a pair of hoggs.
I have seen some nasty dumerils and hoggs for that matter, but for the most part I think hoggs are the calmer of the two.

Re: Main difference between a Hog Island and a Dumeril?

Thanks for all the input, I am probably going to be going with a cage with the same dimensions but around 15 high instead of the 12. Seems a lot of people really like both and I hear great things about both, so that just makes my decision that much harder Just going to be looking around and seeing which snake really pops out at me. Thanks!
