GTP myth
If you read up about GTP's most books will say that GTP's only perch on branches that are the same girth as the snake - i would like to dispel this myth
I am definite that the wire is NOT the same girth as teh snake

Re: GTP myth
Awesome pic mate... See books aren't so great when compared to actually observing your animals behaviour

Re: GTP myth
Could it be because smaller perch= less chance of falling off?

What it means with ours is that he is going into the early stages of shed, for some reason he climbs up there for anything up to 72 hours - then he will come down and within 10 days he will shed. Just a quirk of his i guess

Not true Rob... the wire is the same girth as its tail!

Re: GTP myth
That is definitely an awkward position. Love it!

Re: GTP myth
Ours seems to prefer a perch about 50% larger than he/she is.

Re: GTP myth
If that's his "shed spot" I would conclude that it's more about the environment rather than the perch
Like the first thing I notice about it is the perch is next to a vent and (guess) close to the heat source. Second thing I notice is that this particular perch is in a tight spot where he can feel secure.
There are a lot of interesting opinions about perch diameter for arboreal snakes in general, as well as species specific, many of which concern the animal's health. I know there are different recommendations for neonates opposed to adults opposed to gravid females opposed to simple preference of ... and then it all changes when you jump to an emerald or an amazon.
A lot of interesting ideas to say the least!

Re: GTP myth
I sometimes hate books on reptiles because some of them seem like they have no idea what they are saying.
