heat tape and heat mats do NOT give off much ambient air temperatures
i use NON light emmiting ceramic bulbs for all my carpets
ceramics give good accurate consistant ambient air temperatures and since they are non light emmiting, they can be used 24/7 to heat your tank
imo carpets get most of their body heat from basking not from ground temperatures.
i had a carpet drag itself through its water bowl, then lye on its heat mat causing thermal burns to its belly
i only use ground heat sources with hatchlings in tubs
