basking light or flexwatt for diamond jungle jag?

so i am just looking for some opinions on this subject which is about half and half , some people think all a carpet needs is some heat tape and others say cause they are semi arboreal they prefer a basking light. i am sure they can and do thrive with one or the other but i am just curious what you all think about this and what you personally use? thanx

I would say this has more to do with the type of enclosure you have it in more than anything else.If you tell us the type of set up you will have it in I am sure more people will be able to offer you sound advice on what they would use.

heat tape and heat mats do NOT give off much ambient air temperatures

i use NON light emmiting ceramic bulbs for all my carpets

ceramics give good accurate consistant ambient air temperatures and since they are non light emmiting, they can be used 24/7 to heat your tank

imo carpets get most of their body heat from basking not from ground temperatures.

i had a carpet drag itself through its water bowl, then lye on its heat mat causing thermal burns to its belly

i only use ground heat sources with hatchlings in tubs

cheers shaun

thank you shaun ! that makes sense to me , unless i was going to keep my carpet in a tub which i am not i will use a overhead heat source, thats why carpets are awesome cause they arent afraid to perch on a branch and bask.

I use both. My younger carpets seem to enjoy climbing to bask more than the adults. I would say the choice is yours, but I like the look of mine basking on his perch...probably more for me than the snake
