Venomous in oklahoma
I'm looking to get into venomous snakes. I've handled rattlesnakes for a couple years but before I own a hot I really want a mentor to teach me better ways to handle hooks. I am okay with hooks but I always believe I can learn more and be shown more pointers. I am also looking for a really mean aggressive large snake so that I can train my skills without dying. I wanna train for about a year with a mentor and an aggressive snake before I move on to my venomous. Anyone from oklahoma or anyone is general that can help thank you.

Re: Venomous in oklahoma
If you were in SC i could hook you up with one of my mentors. I like the steps your taking, I would add, a year of stick work is over the top unless your planning on keeping Aggressive Elapids off top. Get a species that rides the hook really well, with mild venom. So your gaining experience in other places other than just hook work...

I hear the Najas love crawling on the stick so you have to learn to switch hands. Can be tricky.

That Mr. Brown is one funky snake. Constantly misses the prey and tries to bite his own tail.

Re: Venomous in oklahoma
If you want a really good snake to learn on, get a REALLY pissy rat snake, or preferably a REALLY pissy mangrove snake, those things are 1 incredibly high energy ball of fire :P

Re: Venomous in oklahoma
Get a mangrove snake. They are mildly rear fang venomous, Their bite sucks, and the venom is enough to make you avoid getting bitten, minor necrosis. They will also eat your face if you give them a chance.
