Question breeding coloney

I'm thinking of breeding leos in the next couple of years but I dont know if I should breed my current female she's a high yellow posable jungle phase and I think I want to go with the carrot tails and tangs so really should I put the stress on her to turn out less than par animals or should I spare her the trouble intirely? also can I buy a 40 breeder and house the leos together and if so how many? (male to female ratio plz)

Thanks guys!

I wouldn't call a high yellow jungle leo sub par, I personally love jungles. Half of my females are plain high yellows and they are beautifull animals, but, if you are not interested in that morph there is no sense in breeding her.

As for a breeding colony, a 40 gallon breeder would be ok for say a 1.3 or 1.4 group of leos. Just make sure they all have individual hides so none are bullied and keep an eye out for any animals that seem stressed or not feeding normally.

I suggest that unless you want to breed yellows, then don't bother using her. If you want to get some very interesting yet unpredictable morphs, then I suggest you house 1 carrot tail, 1 tangerine, 1 high yellow, 1 blizzard, 1 albino, and one jungle together. (5 females, 1 male) If carrot tail is your favorite morph, then I suggest you let the male be the carrot tail so that way, there will be a bit of carrottail in each of them hopefully. I only started researching leos 2 months ago so I may not be of any help but I hope my information is helpful!

"What is a less than par animal???" your right that was bad word choice... I'm not sure if I will breed them at all but I think if I was to it would make sence to keep them seprate so you know what blood lines go were. as far as what Emily-Fisher posted. you must not know alot about how genitics work because you wouldent get a mix just a lot of 50% hets and you would hae no idea which ones are wich.
