Re: I need help!!
You need to get the snake to a vet ASAP and I'd triple check your husbandry. I can't recommend a good vet, sorry. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: I need help!!
up the snakes temp and lower the humidity a bit. remove all substrate and replace it with newspaper you change everyday and add an extra water dish. then as soon as possible go to the vet.

Re: I need help!!
my bf once had a jungle carpet python he bought it from someone and the snake had mites what my bf did was soak his snake with olive oil try to avoid the head then put the snake back in his habitat and leave the snake in there for at least an hour and put paper towel on the substrate you currently use i know messy but it suffocates the mites and you'll see the mites on the paper towel just falling saves you money but if you don't want to do that there's medicine at your local pet shop for mites but other than that the guy above me is right up the temp and lower humidity and please see a vet asap i hope he's okay!!

Re: I need help!!
The olive oil treatment has been recommended on here previously and thoroughly shot down in flames with (if i remember right) a very good explanation as to why it shouldn't be used - cant remember why tho

Re: I need help!!
Hi all if you look on this site you would find a thread started by Mark (Gone snakey can't remember how to spell his handle)for NIXS and distilled water mixture. It make 4 leaders and I have used it in my 6 years of reptiles and so have others with no problems. It has been proven to work on all reptiles.
Cheers

. You need to keep humidity higher when dealing with a uri. Up the temps AND humidity. The hot, humid air is easier for them to breathe and helps break up the mucus.
For mites, I love the Nix method. You can do a quick Google search for "Nix for snake mites" and get step-by-step instructions. You also need to go back to a vet; I'd recommend trying a different vet. I personally hate Baytril and have never had a good outcome using it. My vet and I prefer Amikacin. It's a broad-spectrum antibiotic without the tissue damage that Baytril often causes. The only thing with Amikacin is that you have to make sure to keep the snake very well hydrated because it is dehydrating.
The only thing I'd be concerned about with a snake that is not responding to antibiotic therapy is that the cause could be viral; hence, you need a good, reliable reptile vet who will know what to look/test for.
For temps/humidity until you get to the vet, raise your temps to basking spot of 98F, keep the whole cage about 90-93F. It's hot but it will bump the immune system up. Give the snake a twice daily (morning and night) soak for 20 minutes in warm (93-95F). This is the method recommended to me by my vet, who is well-known in the eastern US and I trust completely with my animals. I have used this method to cure several snakes in the past. Best of luck and keep us posted.
