What up with her

I now have Asphyxia "tamed" enough so I can easily remove her from the enclosure, and have her rest on my hand for long periods of time, basicly very well behaived.

However, as soon as someone else is around she will continisouly strike at them

What's that all about? is it "normal" and how should i fix this responce?

Tanks

well thats Interesting I do have a theory or two if you would care to hear them.

I beleive that boids with thier super sense of smell can and do become adjusted to our unique pharamones (you smell like you and I smell like me) Thusly over time with continued interaction with one induvidual,a level of comfort is achieved between both boa and keeper.Boas can and do sense in increase in heart rate when held and are coiled around our hands ect.this does make them nervous or in a better term exciteable.

So you are holding your boa the boa is comfortable with you and you are the same with your boa.Someone enters the room a new smell enters the room also the person who enters the creates more movement. So the boa has a new smell to contend with and movement at the same time.We know that young boas are on the prefered snack list of a whole lot of critters in the wild, and millions of years of evolution won't be denied in 50 years of captive and selective breeding. The boa reverts to instinct and strikes out because of a percieved threat. This act of agression startles you and your heart rate and blood pressure go up rapidly. The boa senses this and becomes more stressed.

He/she will probably grow out of it over time and with carefull and frequent handling. I would allow others to handle your boa and would have others present whenever you do.I bet in 6 more months the boa will be calm as a puppy with any one and no matter who is in the room.

Just my "moronic" 2 cents

peace to you in the "hour of the wolf"

happy new year

She is a daddy's girl! It's not so unusual from what I understand. Snakes function more on instinct than intellect. A snake becomes used to it's owner, and knows them. IMO, it's everything, from pheremones, to touch, to smell.

Our snakes can tell the difference and act differently with kate and I. Some are more likely to just sit on kate and be all curious with me and others are the other way around.
