Re: Escape

Congrats on the safe recovery..

Now it's very important to find out exactly how the escape happened and take the necessary measures to prevent it from happening again.

Too many times escapes do not have happy endings.

Re: Escape

Yes, you have to double-check everything and figure out how he got out; otherwise, he will just get out again, and maybe next time he won't be so easy to find. Good thing neither of you rolled over on him during the night! I bet that was an interesting morning...lol.

Re: Escape

I think we don't give most animals enough credit. Snakes have a very primitive brain, but I do think they have a modicum of memory and learning ability..otherwise how could they survive in the wild?

Re: Escape

Am pretty certain there is a semblance of "memory" in snakes - when my corn escaped he was in a faunarium for two days while i sealed his viv "again" and found the tiny whole that he had squeezed out. The second i put him back in the viv he immediately went to the spot where the whole was and spent a good ten minutes probing around my attempts to block the hole.

Re: Escape

I have a friend who cares for a LOT of snakes.

He wears glasses and has always fed his snakes while wearing his glasses on his face and had done so for years. His snakes would eagerly anticipate food when he opened up the enclosures at feeding time.

A few months ago he went to the optometrist and got a set of contact lenses.

Not even giving it any thought he went into the snake room, this time without his glasses on and when he started opening up enclosures to feed his snakes they immediately retreated to the hides and were downright frightened.

He went back into the snake room the next day this time with his glasses on, and they accepted the food offerings just as the always had.

I have known Steve for a few years now, he is a retired deputy sheriff and honest as the day is long, otherwise I would have thought "nice story bro"
