i was wondering what ppl think is the best substrate for ground dwelling boas ???? we are using wood chips but i was looking at this other stuff that kinda looks like hay but its wood........? we were wondering would the wood chips be a little harsh on his skin ???? or does it not bother him ????
It depends on how much humidity a particular species needs. For my Dumeril's boa, I keep him on cypress mulch (Keepers Choice). It holds humidity well and is softer than Repti-Bark. I've found Repti-Bark scratches up belly scales. For snakes that do not require as high humidity, I keep them on shredded aspen.
