Maintaining Humidity

I have a digital thermometer/humidity guage in my boas enclosure the temp from my bulbs is the perfect temp range for my snake, and at this temperature i cannot get the humidity above 37% without constantly misting the entire inside of the cage and making it a cold wet nightmare. I tried covering 5/6ths of the top screen to try and get it up, but it seems that it just makes the water evaporate that much faster which is what i wanted, but it only lasts until the water i sprayed in is gone, then its hotter and dryer than before. I cant be home every hour to spray the inside of the tank to keep it up, what would you guys recommend. He is in a 30gal terrarium and is about 9months old.

Thanks

Re: Maintaining Humidity

The humidity gauges on some of my digital thermometers are all stuck at 33% humidity, I don't trust them. Personally I don't even bother with humidity, mist now and then especially when in shed; if the snake sheds fine your good. You can also make a humid hide, just take a small plastic container with a lid and cut a hole in it, filling it with damp moss or something. That allows him to regulate his humidity and its so much easier then trying to maintain a constant percent in the entire enclosure. What substrate are you using?

Re: Maintaining Humidity

Depending on your setup something in the tank could be lowering your humidity. I have found that putting a water bowl by a heat source will raise the humidity especially if it is an UHT. When you figure out what the problem is, please let us know.
