Brumating Question

Is there any reason to brumate Hondurans until the winter before they are to bred?

I have a pair that are less than a year old now, and will probably wait 2 more years to breed them.

Thanks!

Re: Brumating Question

Im assuming milk snakes, I would say no, there is no reason they need to be brumated if there is no intention on breeding them that season, some people I know dont brumate hondo's at all before breeding, others brumate them a year or 2 before planned breeding, I think this is more just for the break, when you have several hundred snakes tuckin a few more away makes a big differance on your cleaning and feeding routines, and I assume prepares the snake for the seasonal cycles, good luck and happy herping!

Re: Brumating Question

Brumation is beneficial to the snakes either way.....however most do not mess with brumating anything under a year or two. You can slow the food down and such for a winter period though.
