anyone use f/t??

so i was doing some number crunching last night and found that if i order my rat pups, fuzzies and med-large rats from rodentpro.com i can save about $100 off my feeding bill every 6 months.

mainly, i would like to know how you people that order f/t rats thaw them out, and what is the best way. how hard is it to switch juvi boas and adults over to f/t from f/k? and lastly, how long do the frozen goodies last in the freezer for.

I put the mice or whatever in a ziplock bag, squeeze the extra air out, seal it, and submerge it in a pan of hot tap water. I leave the top of the bag sticking out even though it is sealed. I weight the bag by placing a mug of hot water on it so it stays submerged. This takes less time to do then to explain. I am currently feeding hoppers or weanling mice and I find that they thaw with out having to renew the hot water.

For larger prey you would need to dump out the cooled water and add fresh hot water to continue thawing. When thawed they will be soft and flexible. I want them still a little warm when I offer them to the snakes. There is also plenty of mouse odor when they are thawed.

I offer the mouse to the snake holding the mouse tail with pliers and the snake usually strikes so hard that it tears off the tip of the mouse's tail.

Feed your snake a few times by dangling a live mouse in front of your snake so that it learns to take it that way as oppoosed to putting it loose in the cage. Then when you offer a f/t mouse this way and wiggle it a little bit chances are the snake will take it readily.
