Restrictions in Alberta (reptiles)

I was reading the list today and its just humongous. I can understand not being allowed a burmese but a milksnake? They dont allow mud puppies which is wierd because what could they do in the wild? Its out of control!

the problems with muds is that people let them go into the wild and when they do get into the waters they eat every fish egg that they can which can destroy whole species of fish and also frogs they just love to eat anything that they can. a mudpuppy can grow quite large in the right erea going through the swamps of new lyskard ontairo i had one latch on to my pant leg it was close to two feet long and quite mean i had to kill it to break open the jaws.

wow, didnt realize a mud puppy can grow so big. But what about the burmese? I have no idea what it could do because of the short summers which probably arent warm enough and the winter. Some of these animals are tropical.

Large Boids are prohibited because more often than not they are purchased by people that are unable to take care of them properly & after the first year or 2 are looking to abandon them to rescues etc. Folks don't think things out properly & end up with no means to house & feed these animals properly as they grow larger leading to their neglect. Large Boids such as Rocks & Retics in addition to the above can be quite dangerous in the hands of an unworthy keeper & more often than not the people looking to get them are IMHO unworthy. Some folks just want them because they are "Huge Killers" & think of them more as a status symbol than a pet. In reguards to no venomous etc. same comments. As mentioned above other species are prohibited due to concern of other native species & their habits being "upset". Mark
P.s. the Eastern Milksnake (only one listed BTW) is over concerns of poaching of the species in other areas of the country & possiblity of becoming established in the wild.
