anaconda floods
i doubt i'm the only one thats had this problem...right now my conda is in a pretty small cage. its only temporary till i get him a nice big boaphile. he does have room to stretch out (not completly but most of the way) and he fits in his hide box and water bowl. i did read that condas like water bowls they have to squeeze into, if so then mine should love his. i can fill the bowl (well actually its a kitty litter pan) half way and he will still displace water. every time he gets in his water he spills it out so every time he soaks (which is basicaly every day) i have to fill it up more. i packed care fresh beding around the bowl to soak most of the water up but most of the time it gets all the newspaper wet too. i hope that when i get him his bigger cage and something bigger to soak in it wont happen as much but wont he still displace water in that? please tell me what you other conda owners do, thanks.

We don't put in as much water... so there isn't overflow when it's displaced. Try filling it a third or even a quarter of the way up instead of half.

Here is a link for some large tubs that should work good for a Anaconda.

I agree, one third or a quarter sounds good to me. You don't need HUGE water bowls if your Anaconda is small I have 2' long x 1'5" wide bowls for my Anacondas, and my 10' Green x Yellow Anaconda can fit in it just fine, with a lot of room left and 3-5" left for more water.

` I settled on food storage pans. These are made by Cambro. I get them at a wholesale restaurant supply house. I like the idea of the plastic being food grade. The water I use is quite acid, and mixed with the waste from the snakes, I don't want any chemicals from the plastic getting into the snakes. They make these in huge sizes, and they are strong. They're not cheap, though.
` The shape of these pans lets me put only a few inches of water in, then the snake displaces it to the top. Anacondas don't mind a flood, so even with two pans, they all often crowd into one. Sometimes they tip them, too. I just figure, when they flood the cage, it's time for a good cleaning, and make the best of it. lol

thanks very much for the replys. alot of the times i dont fill it up even half way and he ends up tiping it or whatever. it feels like no matter what i do he finds a way to spill the water. hopefully this problem will be gone when hes in a bigger cage and i can get him a bigger water pan and do something different with that. thanks again.
