has anyone heard of...
problems with dumerils having deformed or no tongues?? I have one that I have never seen his tongue flick. I was asking a local "expert" about this and he said that there is a problem with Dumerils being inbred and this affecting their tongues. He strikes at mice out of fear"i guess" but I have not gotten him to eat. The husbandry is right on. I have other snakes so in great condition, so I do know how to keep them, I am positive that husbandry is not an issue here. He is about 4 months and I have had him for about 1 month. He has eaten before as evidenced by the fact that he has shed and deficated since I have has him.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Happy New Year.

I've never herd of something like that in dumerils. People talk of dumerils being inbred, but i've not seen any real evidence of it. I've been breeding them for about 8 years and all the babies are born normal. I've talked to other breeders and they seem to have all normal babies too.
If your animal was born without a tongue I'd say thats more to with chance than inbreeding.
Dumerils like a nice hot spot 95% + and to hide. this is most inportant for babies.
New born dumerils are known to be problem feeders, I've had some go 3+months before feeding. some will feed once and not feed for a few more months.
Any new born snake should have at lest (very lest) 3 meals before its sold. Dumerils should have more like 6-10 meals before they are sold.

Naw. Everclear pure grain alcohol has two versions. The 151 proof and the 190 (aka 95% alcohol) proof. I've most definately had straight shots of the 190 proof kind. Not saying I liked it, and not saying it was healthy, but I can still see.
Real fun to cut up watermelon and let it soak in the Everclear... alcoholic fruits!

Alchool is 95% but the closest place to buy it is Quebec. I hear that people cut the top off a water melon and dump a 13oz bottle into and leave it sit over night. Imagine what that would be like coming back up. ewwww
Cheers,
Trevor
