Heaviest Living Snake

Alot of people have been asking about how large certain snakes will get and there have been many different answer being given so I thought i would check out The Guinness World Book Records. Heres what I found out:

HEAVIEST: The Heaviest living snake is a Burmese Python weighing 182.76 kg (403 lb.) It is 21 years old, 8.23-m (27 ft) long, and has a girth of 71.12 cm (28 in) Known as "Baby", she lives at the Serpent Safari Park in Gurnee, Illinois, USA.

LONGEST: The reticulated python (Python reticulates) of southeast Asia, Indonesia, and the Philippines regularly exceeds 6.25 m (20 ft 6 in). The record length is 10 m (32 ft 9.5 in), for a specimen shot in Celebes, Indonesia, in 1912.

OLDEST:The greatest age reliably recorded for a snake is 40 years, 3 months, and 14 days for a male common boa (Boa constrictor) named Popeye, who died at Philadelphia Zoo, Pennsylvania, USA, on April 15, 1977.
Pretty sure that these records should be accurate considering the source i got them from. So hope that helps answer any questions

Wow those are the most innaccurate records I have seen from Guiness. Dissapointing. Maybe they are just outdated?

"Baby" I believe passed away a couple years ago for one.

There is also a documented Ball Python (in a zoo) who lived until the age of 47.

Actually I called Serpent Safari just a few months ago and Baby is alive and doing well but there are no new reports on her weight and length wich by now should be considerably more.

The age is definitely not the maximum. I too know of the BP that Marisa mentioned. Additionally, I can think of other BP that are exceeding that age (and still breeding!) down in the states. Apparently Rubber Boas can exceed 70 years, which is wild. I think it just boils down to not many people caring enough to contact Guiness

the oldest recorded snake is a ball python, that lived just over 47 years in captivity, but because it was a wild caught, no-one will ever know the real age.
cheers

I always said that trusting records is playing in the dark, you never know.
Seems that Guinness accepted the claim made by "Baby"'s owner, but did they check it themselves? umm..maybe not. Judging from pics i believe Baby was about the same size of my big burm Anastacia (dead now) and she was about 300 pounds.
Longevity records have one problem: you can never track it back. It's hard to prove when the snake came out of the egg.

I think Guinness checks everything before they put it in the book. They aren't just going to go by someones word on it.

No..Baby is still alive. Baby is located in a big mall called Gurnee Mills mall. THe store baby is in is Serpent Safari. I saw Baby there about 2 weeks ago so im pretty sure it's still alive. The people told me she's supposed to die soon in about a year or two.

Maybe they weighed her after a big meal.
