Automatic water dispensers

I got one of those automatic water dispensers that looks like fake rocks for my leopard gecko...you know a mini version of the larger ones for dogs and cats...the kind you put an upside down bottle in.

Well it sucks.

Anyone else find this thing to be crappy? Or is it just mine? I really like the way it looks and the small size, I just can't seem to make it keep the water dish full even when there is plenty of water in the bottle.

I was at a pet store and I seen them and asked the worker if they were any good. Well they used 1 in with there geckos. It was fool of wood chips and didnt have all that much water in it so i assumed they didnt work well.

I'm not sure of the model you're referring to, but I have a "Farnam Reptile Waterer". It looks EXACTLY like the dogs water dish, only smaller. It has a small screen that can be removed which allows the water to flow freely into the bowl. Otherwise it gives the water some purchase to resist flowing through. Some physics thing like suface resistance...

The reptile water dispenser that looks like fake rock is really not good at all. We tried it out at the store I worked at and the little bit of water that trickled out was usually not enough to be noticed by any of the geckos and it was quickly filled with sand or bark. If going away on vacation, I would just look to the regular plastic dispensers that can be found for reptiles or the miniature-sized ones that look like those for cats or dogs as Razzle mentioned.

Marisa , I used to use those green plastic ones. They don't look like rocks but they work fine

Yeah see guys....I like the rock look! LOL

Oh well. Maybe I will pick up a normal one like you suggested Roy, and decorate it myself.

They seem like they would be pretty convienent.

I just use the Habba Mist, it sprays a good amount, can change the intervals and the length of the spray, I love it. The only thing which is a downside is the $100.00 it costs to get the thing new.
