This new 7 month girl that I got strikes alot and hisses. Will she settle down a bit the older she gets? I've had her for about two months.
I can get her out of her cage with no problem--once she's in my hands she's alright.
She's also a picky eater.....

Do you handle her often right after feeding her? that could be a cause......
Also, some people say not to feed the snake in it's enclosure....
If he don't handle her much and just put your hands in when you feed her, she could associate your hand with feeding time.
You said "I can get her out of her cage with no problem--once she's in my hands she's alright. "
When does she hiss and strike then?????????????

When I put her back in her enclosure she sometimes strikes at me.
She hissed the last time I tried to feed her. It was after she shed. I used some tongs to dangle a rat in front of her. Needless to say, she was NOT interested. She was in her enclosure.
Actually, that was the first time she's ever hissed.

She probably wasn't handled before you got her....hands mean feeding time.....
She'll get used to you, don't worry.
Just give it time and patience.

nO, I never handle any of my snakes after they've eaten. I usually leave them completely alone for about 3-4 days.

Feed IN the enclosure, especially for Ball Pythons.
And the ones that strike and hiss are usually good feeders.
Yeah, most of them calm down with age.

One of my girls seems to hiss when I pick her up to quickly without her understanding im no harm. When I bought her she was bunched up with 10 balls, so im assuming she was NEVER handled.
Its the only snake I have that hisses.

I feed in the enclosure as well....I believe it to be less stressful on the animal.
All of my little ones hiss at me every once and awhile, some more than others. They're all talk though. lol. The only one that doesn't hiss, prefers to strike first and ask questions later.

They are burrowing/ambush-type pythons that are NOTORIOUS for going off of food and aggravating their keepers. So to grab them, drag them to a new cage with new smells and textures just to feed them, doesn't make much sense. Does it?

I have to agree the ones I feed in their enclosure eat better. I have some that I feed out of enclosures but they refuse to eat in their enclosure and are miserable eaters on a good day. Hmmmm they are also in aquariums. I have my other rack ordered and paid for, waiting for it to be finished so I can plan the trip to Calgary to go get it, hope that will solve all the problems!
