spotted question

hi i planning on breeding my pair of spotted pythons next fall my question is if i keep them housed together will they breed? all the care sheets say that you have to put the female in with the male but they don't tell me if i can keep them housed together before breeding and after breeding to save room.

lizlady what you read is wrong in the wild the male spotted python will look for the female. so put the male in the females cage if you put the female in the males cage. the female will be too busy investigating the new cage while the male is trying to mate. there best kept speratly all you need is a 2 2ft enclosures they don't get that big. reason why is that spotted pythons are known to eat there own kind, this is what i have heard. also it can bring stress on removing for feeding all the time unless there used to it. hope this helped bye

They tend to eat each other, so I don't recommend you put them together other than at breeding time following conditioning.
They require a period of cool evenings prior to breeding attempts. Antaresia like many pythons, breed in winter to Spring, and copulations generally take place with falling temperatures during the evening. Increasing the humidity by misting the cage prior to lights out, is also a valuable stimuli.
