i was using a 100 watt zoo-med halogen bulb for the basking side which brought temperatures to about 100 degrees. the light was about 10 inches from the basking surface. i started noticing that my beardie would bask in the most intense area of heat with his front legs off of the log. he wouldn't stay there too long before moving to a less intense area of the log. so.....i went out and purchased an exo terra day glo bulb (75watt) to make things more bearable. does anyone have any feedback as to how these bulbs have worked for you? (life, heat produced etc.) thanks....chris

100°F is fine for a bearded dragon, how old is he? Thermoregulating is normal behaviour, they should not be spending all of their time on the cooler side of the enclosure.

I have collared lizard, that like hot spot at 110F.
I use 50Watts Halogen bulb sold in Home Depot.
they heat very well, cost 4$ and produce a nice white light.
they are Dimable.

and about the hot spot. calculate the height of the lizard.
one inch could be 10F in some case. if you calculate on to basking site and it's 100 and you lizard is one or two inch high... you end up with a 110-120F temp..

how far from the basking spot is your 50Watt bulb?

Well at 10 inch I can achieve 125F and at 12" I get 108F.
So the hot spot is at 10-11 inch with a dimmer. so I get around 104-110F

I got a human heating pad to have the floor at 80F 24/24
and the 50Watts Hallogen bulb to get my hot spot
