The scorpions taste kinda fishy
Apparently, tarantulas taste like crab, and ants are lemony. I have tried grasshopper and some sort of beetle, and they both tasted like chicken.

I've had alligator 3 times in the last month.. It seems to be an appetizer everywhere now
It tastes like nothing... Its all the spices they dip it in before they deep fry it.. It could be anything really..
I'd say it taskes like rubbery chicken, or popcorn buffalo chicken. Its prepared the same way.
I'm quite sure I like them alive much better.
You should have seen the look on the waiters face when I asked to see the CITES permit for his appetizers. (alligator is appendix 2)

I agree, gator doesn't really have a distinct flavor...much like froglegs. Just kinda bland and tasting like whatever they're seasoned with.
I would like to try the insects though, just outta curiosity.
I know I wouldn't be catching any myself to prepare even if they were delicious.
Some of the stuff they eat on Survivor or Fear Factor I wouldn't be able to stomach though...nothing raw, echhhh!

Yeah, ants are pretty bad. They burn like heck going down your throat.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I, for sure, will not be eating any bugs or arachnids. Not purposefully anyways.
As for eating alligator, you folks are right when you said it tastes like nothing. It was the texture that got me though, like really gristly hamburger. Ick.

While in Scouts, we hade to eat several species of inverts as a "survival test" so to speak. Ants were my favorite, and taste just like honey or honeysuckle. I actually enjoyed eatting them..lol. Crickets were a bit meaty while being a bit fruity, and grubs and beetles were very nutty and soily tasting. I can't say that any were exactly gross, just odd. Again, I did think that the ants were very good...like the candy version of the bugs. We had to eat several species of plants too, which more of them ended out worse than the inverts.
