New Website
Hey, I just got done trying to make my first website. I don't know much about computers, so I used Freewebs.com to create it.
Eventually I would love to either learn how to do my own, or have someone build one and teach me how to update it. Oh well, for now this seems to work quite well.
Here it is:
www.freewebs.com/brentstrande
Lemme know what you think!
Thanks,
Brent Strande

I got some of the pictures on my site, but I think that I'm gonna hafta get someone to make a site for me as I am not a fan of the format of mine. Anyone have any advice of what I should add/change to the site?
Thanks!
Brent

For a first time web site it's great!
A lot of people choose a whole lot of garish colors and backgrounds that make the text invisible, and then stick pictures all over the place so you can't see where one line of text ends and another begins.
Your layout is nice and minimal, good colors, and the pictures don't override the design
good work

Nice simple, attractive layout. I like being able to navigate my way around easily on a website and yours is good.
I agree with Mike, I have the same pet-peeves about (some) websites.
If you don't want to do coding, or use a template, you can download or purchase web editors that will allow you full control over how you want your page to look by adding in graphics where you want them, colours, text, etc., and then it spits out the code for you to use.

El Barto, I have no clue... never used it (dreamweaver) This is online and free, www.freewebs.com
Mike and Heather, thanks, yeah, I don't mind it and I'll see if I find something I like better but it gets the job done for now.

I'm in the process of making a new website, as my old site with AOL is out of room. Dreamweaver is a nice program, but is costly. Shhhhhhh.....don't tell anybody, I downloaded my copy.
I haven't worked on my upcoming site in a while though, and at the rate my collection is growing it'll never be done. Another program I've heard a lot of good things about is Frontpage, and it's a lot cheaper than Dreamweaver.
I agree with Cruciform; keep it simple. The more I look at my current site, the more I hate it. It's hard on my eyes. I really like your site, the colors aren't too bold and it has a nice efficient design. And you avoided my biggest pet peeve: music. I absolutely can not STAND music on webpages. If I come across a site with music, it gets closed immediately. I find it very hard to concentrate on something when there's music playing in the background, and I don't want to have to mute my pc every time I find such a site.
Just my 2 cents. I sure have rambled on.

You did a great job! Sure beats the heck out of MY first site... lol. Ditto to everyone else's pet peeves, and congrats on managing to avoid them all
I've yet to use Dreamweaver, although I now have it -- I've used FrontPage to build all of my sites, and I find it quite easy to work with. Apparently Dreamweaver is more "powerful" and can do more things, but I've yet to get off my butt long enough to figure out how to use it One of these days... lol.
You're off to a great start, keep up the good work
Jen
