Unhappy Dwarf Problems

ive had my cuviers dwarf caiman for awhile with no problems at all. but for the past 3 days hes been scratching himself alot...some of the scales almost look raw!!.......is this normal behaviour?????? is this his way of shedding....please help

The skin flakes off in bits and pieces and scratching is normal. However, th skin shouldnt look raw or agitated.. Do you have any pics?

well the scales go whitish after he scratches them..but darken over a couple of hours.....
