My corn eating
My '03 corn ate again tonight. I think. I bought a pinkie from the pet store, I stunned it. After about an hour she took it. But she took it into her hide. And then I heared it squeel a couple of times. I will be freezing the pinkies from now on.
My question is this. Since I didn't see her eat it. Something tomorrow should I lift her hide to see if she ate or leave it 48 hours and see? I've heard people say if the pinkie is left overnight, remove it. But I don't want to lift the hide tomorrow if she did eat it, due to causing stress to her and having her regurg. So what should I do? Lift it tomorrow or wait 48 hours?
Thanks
Shane

I'm guessing if it grabbed the pinkie and pulled it into its hide that it most likely ate it. I think you could check it after 24 hours. Pinkies are pretty gross after 48 hours especially if its on or under the heat source. Were you having problems getting it to eat? How long have you had it?
Best of luck
Peace

You'll know by the smell before 48 hours! Rotten mice REEEEK!
It's not bad to just lift the hide a crack to peek in though....

Well if there hasn't been a problem I would bet that mouse is long gone. I dont think you are going to have a problem. Corns dont normally refuse a meal 2 of mine never have. The other one I had to scent the mice but once it started it eating them it was fine.

You said you will freeze the pinkies next time. What about just buying them frozen? A more humane method of killing a pinky than putting it in the freezer to freeze to death, is to just flick it in the back of the head. It will pretty much kill it instantly, though it will twitch for 20-30 seconds which is the nerves shutting down (I think?).

The wierd this is around this area I can't buy them frozen. Is it safe to flick them? Won't the blood clot? Become bad blood and hard to digest for the snake?

if you feed it right away I wouldn't think the blood would have time to clot. And if you buy a few at a time and flick then put them in the freezer I would think that they would freeze before the blood would clot.
I gave my corn a rat pink that was flicked, she had no problem with it, in fact today is feeding day.

Whenever I buy a live pinky, it comes in a plastic bag. To kill it, I just shake the bag hard once or twice, the pinky will twitch for a few seconds and then die. Then I put it right in with the snake.
