a new red-knee....
well...with what happened to my last little buddy...I was a bit skeptical about getting another spiderling but I did....this one is spunky and a good eater...it wasted no time grabbing the cricket! I set him up in a bigger enclosure and tried to make it look natural....heres a couple of pics..

What a cute little guy. Watching them eat is so neat, my little Chilean sling pounces on them as soon as I dump them in. *L*

hey Sketchy
There ARE tarantulas that stay small, they are referred to as 'dwarf species'. So no, it is a mistake to think they all grow huge and hairy.
If you are really interested, email Tarcan, he is on this site, and he can recommend some small T's to you. Then you can look those ones up, to see if you're interested...
Have fun
D.

Want to see some nice dwarfs and get an idea of the scale, go there:
http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/show...ht=cyriocosmus
Sorry for posting a link to another forum, but I guess it was the only way to do it...
Go to the 7th post where you have a hand holding a mating pair of Cyriocosmus leetzi... pretty interesting! he he
Enjoy
Martin

LOL,
I undestand your enthusiast, they are pretty animals indeed...
I currently have Cyriocosmus elegans and a Cyriocosmus sp. from Venezuela that is sold as C. elegans morph without the black triangle on the prosoma (wether or not it is the same species and only a morph remains to be determined, but they must be kept seperate for breeding purpose)... they both are equally beautiful species...
Cyriocosmus spp. are extremely rare in the hobby, currently, I am the only one that offered some to the general public in North America... but prices are rather prohebitive... I know of only one other person that has them also and that is because he got them from me!LOL
People that are in the resale business would also not bother much importing those (if they could get them), the spiderlings are so tiny (and I mean, you have never seen something quite like this) that they require a lot of attention... not worth it business wise... since I am a hobbyist first, I import what I want regardless of the possible sales, if no one wants some, I could not care less... and most of the hobbyists are into the "big stuff" and do not care much about a species that gets only to a modest maximum size...
C. leetzi comes from Colombia, officially, this country normally does not permit commercial exports of it's fauna... even if the species is "present" in the hobby right now (this is a very relative term, because a lot species like this one are only present in collection of very few select group of hobbyist) no offsprings are available... and I am not sure if there are still males around to continue breeding... I am hoping to get some eventually...
If you want to see other amazing species of Cyriocosmus spp. I invite you to go to the ever excellent Rick West's site for more pictures... enjoy the ultimate beauties...
All the best
Martin
