Heat for corns

I currently have an UTH for my corn snake plus a heat lamp also above the 'hot' end. I have the UTH on a lamp dimmer and I also have a digital thermometer. The problem is that the heat bulb continuously slides down over time until it touches the cage. I have a 20G with sliding/locking lid and the lid is plastic. Twice the heat lamp has melted the plastic on the lid and I had to heat and mold it back. If I keep the UTH on one end, do I also need the heat lamp above ? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The heat pad will be fine on it's own. The corn will find the hot spot when she wants to. Ditch the lamp beofre something goes seriously wrong....

Thanks, I keep on fearing that it could end up causing a fire or ruining the enclosure, or even worse... hurt the snake! You are a great resource Tim! Thank you for all of your help when I have questions!

you said you had the heat pad on a dimmer, just push it up until it gets to the right heat. And if you want the lamp for a daytime/night time cycle use a lower watt bulb and (it it is say an old desk or soemthing of YOURS) attach a piece of 2x4 (or sometime similar) to it and go to the automotive section of wal-mart and pick up a CLAMP light, or to the hardware store and pick up the clamp part and just clamp it on and over the cage (for daytime night time) that is what I did with all my snaks since my room is really dark during the day...
