How long does it usually take on average for these guys to emerge from their eggs? It seems my eggs have begun to hatch, however I only see small slits in the eggs. Iam not sure if its common practise to aid these guys in hatching, but its been about 30 hours since i noticed the initial slit in the egg. Any expieriences that anyone can share will be appreciated! thanks.

after pipping it can be a few hours to a few days.....if you are inpatient you can slit the egg a "little" more to help them get out, but do not pull them out or anything like that - let them do it themselves....good luck, congrats..

if there is a slit and no nose with in a few hours I think you might have a negative outcome, unfortunately. I've had babies slit eggs and ever hatch. To the best of my experience, this is a result of weak babies with can be a secondary effect of weak nesting and/or improper incubation conditions and probably a number of other things that I've yet to discover.

Its wierd, upon egg laying i recovered these eggs right away, they appeared to be in excellent shape, incubated them at 85-86 degrees constant, that was the only fluxuation.

Woke up to slit the egg a bit for the baby, i can see its back, i figure its dead, but il give it some time to come out. Still another egg in the incubator, maybe il have more luck with that one.. Thanks for the replies guys.

Jon's Right!
If your eggs have slits in them then the offspring should emerge within 24 hours or so. If the egg has been slit and the head of the offspring is not outside the egg, then you might have some weak babies. I've seen this as well, and most of the time the baby ends up DOA. The baby has been stuggling to get out of the egg with no luck. If you look at the inside of the egg, you might see numerous scratches on the shell, this is evidence of the young ackie trying to make slits in the egg to emerge. Best of luck with them.
