When begining in the hobby we looked at alot of snake pictures on forums. Most people post pics of their new snakes (often baby snakes).

They usualy ALL look great.

When begining, me and my girlfriend made a long term list of snakes we would like to get in the 1 to 3 years coming. That list included colubrids, boas and pythons.

Since we were begining, our main sources of information was forums, but as our love for reptiles grew, so did our contacts and sources for information and we started to see more and more older snakes (live and on pictures).

Some species such as anery hondos got taken off the list because when adult the colors really aren't as clear as when they are babies.

So here's my poll question.. and if you can insert pictures related to your answers it would be great.

"wich snake( s ) is the most deceiving (looks related) when it gets from baby to the adult age ?"

I think that its the pythons (sorry no offence to the python lovers...I like pythons too but he asked me to choose...lol)

I think that the pythons just looks really cute when they're small. Once they get ollder their cute looks isn't on them anymore. I don't know...just not really my type of animals?

But if you say colorwise...maybe it's the colubrids that lose most of the bright colors. This is because there are a lot more choices (color wise) in colubrids. We simply haven't seen enough color variation in pythons and boas. Maybe if we come to the time when we see as many pythons and boas with as much colors as the colubrids, they too will lose their color too.

But this is just MHO

I just want to add to everyone that this poll is not intended to insult anybody, it's simply to help people with future purchase decision.

I'm pretty sure (and I hope

) that everybody will be mature enough to stay calm and polite when they read that what THEY prefer is not what someone else prefers.

Dumeril Boa's IMO There are one of the most beautiful snakes as a baby then bleah... when adult, I think the same of the albino boas as well for some reason they lose there brightness.
And no one get upset

for me saying this because those 2 snakes I just mentioned happen to be my 2 favorite snakes espicaly the dumeril.

I say pythons, an example is Ringed Pythons...they go from the most beautiful snake on the planet to a not so great looking adult.

Brazilian RainBow Boas develop amazinng as they get older cvheck them out! and corn snakes! all corn morphs look awsome except certain ones

Alex i agree ringed pythons are probably the best example but as adults they have other qualitys that make them beautiful as well (eg.they are probably within the top five for having the best irradecance)

As much as I love colubrids, they're the worst for deception. Let's talk rat snakes here. All obseleus change not only colour, but quite often pattern as well. Talk about a lie. Elaphe carinata good example of a blah baby, to a gorgeous adult. Corns in my opinion get better with age.

here's my plan. Get a 1.1 pair of any snake you buy. If they start to get ugly breed them keep 2 you like sell the rest and BBQ the parents.

Oh, it's the truth. Ever seen a baby Colombian Rainbow Boa? They're magnificent! They're almost as nice as brazilians. The adults, well.... blah. Brown. Very brown. Not much else. However, like other people have said here, they are still one of my favorite snakes, and I will NEVER part with my CRBs. In fact, I want more. Dozens more.

Very True, I love their irradescence, and the jet Black bands. I just wish i could find some one that breeds them around here...

True, that's the same thing with everything.
Take your girlfriend for instance, when you meet her, she is the prettiest thing you have seen, and with time, she becomes your wife, doesn't put on as much make-up as she does weight, then you decide it's time for your to propagate (get a kid) so naturally she will baloon up, and stretch marks will appear and never dissapear afterwards. Then, make-up dissapears and you are left with a specimen that is wrinkled, greying, stretch marked...

Corn snakes IMO, especially the normals, they go really dull and grey from my observations.
