these stars a bad idea

just wondering if anyone else thinks these stars are a bad idea....wouldn't be better to have some sort of criticing system of post so that those with more stars are none as more knowledgeable than just some one who siad "hi welcome to ssnakess" 700 times...........
I've recently read some really basic questions that anyone with intermediate knowledge would know and these people had stars shooting all over the place.....just wondering if anyone else feels the same way and wanted to let people new to the site know that stars are about participation not knowledge

have fun.... keep posting.... and "welcome to ssnakess"

thanks

I feel the same way you do, but I don't think there's nothing we can do about it. Simply visit the site as often as you can and you'll get to know yourself who's good and who's full of BS You're right stars don't matter at all.

Yeah, but I don't think that many people pay attention to the stars anymore.

Hehehehe...hmmm....that sounds interesting!

I don't really like the stars either but, oh well...i don't really pay to much attention to them, i pay more attention to what people have to say and i base my opinions and decisions solely on that.

Im not sure when it was said that the stars indicated someones level of experience at all??? They are simply just something there for fun with no meaning at all... Its like when people send me rude emails if a moderator posts something which they dont agree with about husbandry etc.... Because you are a moderator of a forum does not make you a expert and they are not picked because they are experts, they are picked because I feel they can "moderate" the forums and are active, not because they are have a university degree...

JMO: I don't mind them at all. In one aspect I can see where they've done good.

In cases where someone who hasn't been here long, maybe doesn't know the site rules, etc...posts something they shouldn't for whatever reason, people can see that this person is a newbie and may not know the rules with just one glance at their stars and number of posts.

Personally, I like the names I get a kick out of em.

HOWEVER:

I think JEFF and whoever else, should come up with some new names

lol, I didn't get what the stars meant for a while, then I did. I agree with Bichiraddict, I like the names. lol....

But maybe it should be explained somewhere that they are for fun. Birchiraddict may be more knowledgeable than me, but I have more stars simply because kansas is really boring, I have no money to go anywhere (spend it all on my animals basicly. ) and did I mention that Kansas is really boring, and it sucks? lol

I'm with Jeff, I was reading those posts thinking, "WTF? It's just a fun thing for how many people post alot" Sheesh.

Personally I like the star system, it encourages people to post more, hence making this site more active.

Plus, the site kicks A$$ anyways

I agree with Jenn, it encourages people to post more which makes the site more active and in my opinion allows people to develop friendships on the site.

I post a lot on this site and most of its on pics of other peoples herps, I enjoy seeing what other people keep. If I feel that I can give some good advice I do. However my knowledge is primarliy on crested geckos, some cham info and BP info and also stuff that I read in Reptiles Magazine.
Cheers
