Learning experiences

As many people know, we are very trusting people - and have always felt that if you trust people, it will be good karma, and you won't be taken advantage of or played as a fool.

Looks like it caught up with me a bit, In the last few months we've had 3 really bad experiences.

What is important, is to not let this kind of thing sour you.

When I got onto the Internet about 3 years ago, and started finding out about all of the reptile people in Canada - I was suprised to find out how so many people seemed to be overly paranoid or protective. I can now see why some people are like this, heck, many people don't deal with the general publc any longer.

Reptiles are much cooler than people!

We should be happy that all of the big name people who still deal with the general public as they do, still do.

Hats off to those people, they must have amazing powers of forgiveness or a very poor short term memory.

Oh I totally understand what you're saying...
dealing with some people sometimes is really a pain in the butt.....I can't believe how some people are.....

but hey look on the bright side, there are always good people too right? So just think of those good dealers and forget about those bad things. Hang in there pal~

Hey guys, thanks for the support!

We have had a few bad experiences, but the good far outweigh the bad. There are a lot of good people out there, which makes being in this business very rewarding. I guess we need a bad apple now and then, so we appreciate the good ones.

Some people go above and beyond what is expected of them in a deal - others push your patience to the limit. If it were not for a bad deal now and then, I think we might take the good ones for granted.

It also keep us on our toes to some extent, nothing like losing a thousand dollars or so on a reptile deal gone bad to fire up the adrenaline. Helps hone the problem solving abilities, and definitely helps with concentration and marksmanship during hunting season, haha.

Hats off to the people who are able to deal with the public through good and bad, I hope to be able to do so with the same grace some day.

One other thing...

Since my original post, we have been emailed asking "are you talking about me?".

Anyone reading this who is making payments on snakes or anything else like that - No - I wasn't reffering to you.

My post wasn't meant to target the people I have "issues with", in any way whatsoever, I doubt any of them will ever see this.

Well I hope I never get cought up in one of those.
By the way, I remember a while back there was a contest for a varanid and I think you guy were the winners.
Did you take the varanid? And if so, how is he doing?

And will scaleszoo open to the public eventually? I live in Montreal, but I am planning a trip out in the West in a few years, when I will have won the lottery and never work again, or when I get fet up and decide to cross canada by car lol.

Interesting post considering yesterday was "Go around & grab snakes for cash owed day" in Mark's world. A person shouldn't have to repo or take animals for whats owed, but others should be more responsible to their commitments also. I've been "relocating" a few animals lately to clear up old debts. Anyhow their will always be the solid folks that will make up for the others. What comes around goes around, they'll get theirs. It's a small world heh heh. Mark
P.S. Repo: another good reason only to cuff snakes to local folk lol
P.P.S. "Reptiles are much cooler than people" I think so too. They don't talk back or make fun of me when I talk to myself & laugh at my own jokes.

I guess crap like this happens whenever one person is selling something to another. Heck, whenever we are functioning in an industry where feelings are involved, people get hurt. I am sorry that things have not worked out recently. Dishonest individuals ruin so much. I am assuming from one of the other posts that you have been swindled out of money, and that someone you believed in has let you down.

I think that, for me, what always hurts the most is when I realize that I have been taken advantage of. It’s bad enough when I am out money, but when I realize that I have been played for a fool, that’s where the pain really is. I hope that, as tempting as it is, to stop trusting in people that you don’t let these bad experiences change your overall outlook on life. Don’t give the shmucks of the world so much power that you change who you are in response to their actions.

I think any animal is generally more honest than a person. Animals (herps included) give so much and really ask for so little. Unfortunately people are a "pack" creature. We do not tend to do well in isolation for long periods of time. Hence why we are drawn back in to try again with people. Good luck.

Take care,
Tara Garratt

Ryan, if you dab a little Betadyne on that, it should clear right up!

Sorry to hear of your misfortunes, I trust everything is back on track. If there's any kneecappin' warranted, you know who to call.

Hey Mark, I like the repo plan! Fortunately, I still have the opportunity to do some long haul trucking across Canada for a company I used to work for. Maybe the Saskatchewan Headhunters will go on a road trip for the holidays! There are a few people I would like to visit anyways, nothing like picking up a slave or 2 along the way. Couple months on the $hit end of a shovel in the afrock cage ought to help them think about ripping someone off again! (If they make it out of there in 1 piece) Or scrubbing caimen tanks with a Q-tip. Poop scoopin after Sarge (our Dane) and his Shadow with a teaspoon could be an enlightening experience, especially after some Mexican food!

Wuntu - thanks for the offer, but while I am still quite far from the people I would like to visit, I am closer to all 3 than you are.

Mark - I watched a program on T.V. the other day about repo-men, and i think that is my calling. Maybe I could start a business "Ryan's reptile reposession ranch".

Sirestap - scales zoo is open to the public, in winter it is by appointment only.

The funny thing is Ryan/Sheila is that I'm just in charge of lets say "accounts recv." I can guarantee that no one ever wants to meet my official "Repo man", heh heh. Mark >(

It's too bad you are having trouble

I haven't ever been ripped off, but I most definitly have a constant amount of "o.k. i am buying for sure coming monday" no shows. It's too the point I have about say 5 serious responses to an ad, and one will go through. And I hardly even sell stuff much!
