Help with Temps

Ok, I'm quite a noob, as some may be able to tell, and just got my first bp a couple of months ago. My problem is with the temps. During the day, with both the UTH and lamp on (bulb is 60 watt) my top temp only reaches 83 on the warm side. I have heard that 60 watt is enough, but it never seem to get warm enough in there. Humidity stays normal, hovering about 65% and 70 to 80% on a shed. Any suggestions on how to raise the heat?

right on the ground? the temp right on the UTH should be about 90 if its a normal UTH. my air temperature is about 83 also, but the ground is like 90.

if you are using those stick on aquarium type thermometers, DITCH THEM and go get an indoor outdoor digital thermometer with the little probe. You have to measure the temp on the floor where your UTH is, not just the sides of the cage.

Once you have done this let us know and we can prob hlp you a bit more.

what do the indoor outdoor digital thermometers look like?? Having similiar problem. So I know what to get?

I get mine at Wal-mart for about $9 Canadian. They're a little grey box with a wire coming out of it which is the probe. It can take temps from the probe or from the unit itself. The more expensive ones will display both at the same time.

Yep Walmart has pretty good ones. They have a few different ones. The one I get costs $14.88 and has dual display in/out temperatures and a humidity gauge. Take the probe and stick it to the bottom of the hot side, and mount the actual unit on the cool side.

The brand is Acu-Rite. They have cheaper ones, too.

What brand is this? I haven't had any luck finding this type of thermometer.

Acu-Rite. They are near the hardware section, with the regular outdoor thermometers.

or another one is called sunbeam, I have one that takes indoor out door temps to.

Went out after work and found one tonight. I love Walmart. It's the same as HetForHuman's, but is a darker (better

) colour. Works great too! Thanks fellas!

Is it possible to plug a Rhetostat into or have it work with the thermometer??

Possible? Yes. Without knowledge of electronics and electricity? No. Buy a Thermostat in that case much pricier but you get the extra extra piece of mind. I use Rheostats myself with Indoor/Outdoor probe thermometers

I was using the same ones as het is but I they didn't last. Even with a new battery after about a year they started showing "LO" all the time meaning the battery was low. Also if you hit the max/min key after a while they start to show things like -43 and crazyness like that. I now stay away from that brand. I've had 4 and none of them lasted.
