Talking New Tarantula! <-- Mexican Red Knee

Well as some of you know, a few months ago, I bought my first tarantula. Well, it wasn't long until my second baby came home. She is a mexican red knee and is approximately 3". Amazing colour! I don't have a photo of her yet as I just brought her home and my friend has my digital. However, I should have photos tommorrow for you guys to see and drool all over I've held her 3 times already(I know... she needs to settle in but I couldn't help myself!) and she hasn't flicked a single hair or has shown any signs of stress yet! I used my bare hands to pick her up and she didn't even flick!! She's so tame and cute Thanks, Rob, for my wonderful baby! Also, for anyone who is interested in getting a super healthy, gorgeous invertebrate, check out http://www.arachnomania.net. My baby came from them and I must say, I have never purchased such a healthy animal in my life! Thank you, Rob!!

You got her at just the right time! MOST species of tarantula don't get too grumpy until they are past the 3 inch mark.

What you actually have the chance to do now is acclimate her to handling. Experiments by tarantula collectors have shown that in many species, handling regularly (but not too often to stress out the spider) has resulted in the spiders staying relatively friendly when they are full grown.

Red knees are a great handling species because they are very uninclined to bite... most of the ones I have dealt with have been very flicky though so you are fortunate to get this one so young! Hopefully she will stay this calm and you can have a gorgeous full grown spider in a couple of years to pose with you!

So true in my experiences so far! When we first got out bolivian pink she was like 2 inches or so and would let us pick her up. We didn't care about handling so my BF only held her once or twice then we left her alone. Now she is a big demon! lol

Surprisingly, my experience has been different with my red knee but in a good way. I got her as an almost fully grown sub-adult who molted into adult size a few months after I got her.

I've had her now for 2 years and only handled her for the first time a couple of nights ago! She was good and didn't even flick a hair

I've heard from other owners that they tend to be a bit more skittish when young but mellow out as adults.

Who knows? Guess it may be an individual thing

Hehehe... Kesare is spanish for "Long-Haired". I know... kind of stupid but I love the sound of it Keh-Saw-Ray I guess that long-haied matches her a bit since she's so fuzzy and cute...
