Help keep a convicted murder behind bars

I hope it's ok to post this here, if not let me know.

My brother-in-law and long time friend was murdered January 19, 1996 by his former girlfriend, Vicki Frost, in Gahanna, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. She was sentenced July 1, 1996 to 7 - 25 years for voluntary manslaughter. She is eligible for parole in June, 2005.

In the summer of 2000, we found out she was going to have a furlough hearing and was possibly going to be released. We had a major letter writing/petition drive and our story made it to a couple of newspapers and the local news. Our efforts were successful as Vicki was denied early release.

We just found out yesterday that Vicki has requested a judicial release hearing. If granted, she will be free to roam the streets. We are devistated! Her hearing will be held in Columbus on Sept. 10, 2003. We will be making the trip to Columbus to attend the hearing and are going to launch another letter-writing/petition drive again to protest and to pursuade the judge to deny her judicial release.

I have an online petition that I would like everyone to sign if you wish.

http://www.petitiononline.com/h1o9m9e6/petition.html

Thanks for your help

Paul

In my opinion, this is not the place for this subject. Just like the war wasn't or religion.

I'm not trying to start an argument or anything. Just trying to keep my best friends murderer behind bars. The forum description does say "Anything goes...", that's why I went ahead and posted it. If it isn't appropriate then by all means delete the thread. I was just looking for some help, however if someone you loved was murdered I bet you would feel different.

You asked, I told. Anything Reptilian is implied. I've got a friend in jail for murder so don't worry about how I feel about this topic.

I'm sorry about your loss and feel deeply for you. However I don't feel this is the place for these petitions, it is political and NOT herp related. As for the issue of keeping her in jail or not, it's 7-25 years, which means she's already served the required time. It may not be a just sentance, but it's the one the judge and jury handed out. If you don't like it you should put your energy to fixxing the system, not try to keep some one who has served the required time in the system, draining your public funds that could be used to do something positive. The whole idea behind the criminal system is once they've served their time they're supposed to have paid their debt to society, not keep paying it over and over and over. Fix the system that allowed her to get sentanced for manslaughter rather then first or second degree murder. If you don't want people that are convicted murderers walking the streets vote for a manatory death sentance.

I for one would like more info, the definition of voluntary manslaughter is : in order for someone to be found guilty of voluntary manslaughter the government must prove that the person killed another person; the person acted in the heat of passion; and heat of passion was caused by adequate provocation.
Heat of passion may be provoked by fear, rage, anger or terror. Provocation, in order to be adequate, must be such as might naturally cause a reasonable person in the passion of the moment to lose self-control and act on impulse and without reflection.

Now am I supposed to think this was cold blooded murder? It sounds more like she was provoked into it, maybe he was abusive. I'm not trying to start an argument either, but I'm not going to sign a petition just because I've heard one side of a complicated story.

I will sign it and say this voluntary manslaughter usually is the last option for punishment because not enough evidence was in place I dont know the story but Thats usually what happens My Friends Brother Was Killed stabbed right through the heart The prick that killed him Got off with voluntary manslaughter even though it was premeditated He left Got a bowie knife then killed him it wasnt in the moment and he got manslaughter!! he killed him and he goes free after a few years its crap Fortunately he wont have a chance at that.....
