Corncob (bed o cobs) for BCI substrate?

Why have I heard ground corncob to be a bad substrate to use for reptiles? I used it all the time with a Ball python I had years back who suffered from no R.I. or other disorders.
I have now inherited a very sick BCI who was on Aspen chips the first thing I did upon getting him home was remove the chips and thouroughly scrub his cage. and put in the newspaper.
I would like to use a good natural substrate as he likes to move the stuff around.
Now he is on meds and hopefully will feel good again soon.
Thanks
