Question Unknown email

Lately I have been receiving a few emails from a webmaster@gherp.com........they all have "approved" in the subject and in the body of the message it said "see attatched file" but the attatchment is empty???
Very curious, anybody have any idea about this?

After the first time you opened it, your browser probably sent out numorous emails to random people you have sent / received emails from.. the same thing probably happened to the guy you got the email from... NEVER open any email attachments that are .scr and a .gif or .jpg file.

Or switch to a mac, less likely for a virus to work on it

LOL too funny Lisa
But that is quite true I should know!
Out of how many calls that I have taken not one was an actual virus
Christina
AND Jeff If I did not open any jpg or gif files I would not get to see all of those nice pics I get in the email lol
But I do understand what you are saying I know what to do to protect myself. Just wanted to know if anybody else here has received the same email.

Well, gherp is Glades Herps, but I'm not too sure why they'd send you an email. Maybe the attachment is a pricelist or something?

one of the best things you can do for virus prevention on a windows computer is turn off that dang hide known extensions. you don't have to worry about .jpg or .gif, it's the ones where they put .jpg.scr or .gif.exe with the hidden extentions you see the .jpg but not the .scr.

To do this (i'm working from memory here, I'm on my mac) double click on "my computer" (XP users can click on start then "my computer") then go to either view or tools (depending on your version of windows, it's the former for 95 and 98 and the later for ME, 2K, XP) and click on folder options. Click on the view tab. In the advanced settings you will see a check box for "Hide file extentions for known file types". Make sure that there is no checkmark or X in this box.

For those that use Outlook Express (or any other mail reader that allows you to preview with out opening( you should turn off the preview pane. This is under the view | Layout menu in Outlook Express, I'm not sure where it is for other programs. What this does is prevents malicious html scripts from running and also can cut down on spam because you don't trigger the magic cookie by reading the preview.

Now that makes sense about the Glades Herps Tim and Julie.
Hmmmm. I replied to one and said the attatchment did not work who knows.
Hey Lisa, yeah I keep the hidden file option off. It is a pain.
And hooray to the Mac users.
Waiting for the day I can afford the 17" 1 GIG.
Was thinking about the new Emacs but well being in the job I am in I get the inside scoop lol.

Hint to the 10.2.6 update if you are having an issue with logging in you need to use the return button on the keyboard instead of logging in with the log in button. The only glich unless you use AOL
