Viper boa
Well, I've gone and done it again!!! lol
New snake is coming in a couple of weeks An adorable CB baby viper boa!
Am reading up on them and starting to prepare the little tyke's new home. Would like to know who else keeps this species of boa and any info you can share aside from basic husbandry
Will post some pics as soon as I can!
Pixie

I had a viper boa about a year or more ago but I didn't really have it for that long. I don't really know what kind of info you would like but here are a couple things I experienced:
When I first got my vb it was very calm and not nippy at all but the minute I got it home and out of the bag it tagged me in the palm of the hand. They are not very demanding, as long as they have fresh water, a clean cage, regular feedings (mine ate about once every 3 or 4 weeks, it was an adult and they don't really do much). I used cypress mulch as a substrate. Make sure you provide adequate hides. Since I basically told you how to take care of any snake I will stop here. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
If you'd like when I can remember this link I have to a very informative vb caresheet I will post it here.
 Regards
Steve

Thanks for the reply, what I am looking for is personal experiences with this breed of snake. From my research so far, I think I have all the basic husbandry down:
- High humidity 75-85%
- Thick layer of substrate for burrowing and lots of hides
- Large water dish suitable for soaking
- Temps variation 85° warm - 78-80° cool
They have a very slow metabolism so they only eat every 3 to 4 weeks.
I think I have the basics down but if I am missing something please don't hesitate to let me know
I guess what I'm asking for more are experiences with temperment and handling. I've read they can be quite nippy but once settled in well they calm down.

this is a pic of mine after eating it's first rat pinky. I gotta say the thing is really low maintanance. Just keep its cage clean, and water full. It is a solomon island ground boa, one of the many 'viper boa's' there are.
just type the name of your species into a search engine like google or altavista. That's how I learned most my knowledge, the rest of it was aquired through harassing the port credit pet guys with questions.

Just wanted to clear one thing up. A Solomon Island ground boa is not a type of "viper boa". S.I. ground boas and Viper boas are both seperate and distinct members of the Candoia family. Hope that helps. Pixie, Sorry I can't help with your question, never had one.

Mason,
No problem, Thats what these forums are suppose to be for, to learn. I got my first snake 14 years ago and I still learn new things all the time on these forums. One thing I'm sure many people can attest to on here is that alot of the people in pet stores have no clue what there talking about. Which is sad, becasue that is how misinformation gets spread. Best of luck with your ground boa and keep the pics coming.

I think more people need to research the pet before they get it anyway, so they don't have to try and remember what the clerk said to do.
As for the pics, I thoroughly enjoy working with my new digi cam, and photoshop 7 (as well as referencing other peoples!).
This one's my treat, and truly my pic.
