i have a BIG problem... m gecko is not in his aquarium
i just got home from school and was gettin ready to water him and hes not there. any ideas on how to find him? can they climb?
he is a leopard gecko

Look near places where there is heat, like behind or under the frigde(anywhere in the kitchen) if he is small i wouldnt be surprised if he crawled into the vent.

In the evenings, keep the lights low and the house quiet and look under EVERYTHING with a flashlight. They can climb quite well if there are rough surfaces, like wood, clothing, etc. They won't climb vertical or smooth surfaces and more than likely will stay low.

You can try dropping the temp of your house and creating one basking spot with a heater in the corner, don't use a light or they won't use it. Try putting his favorite hide under a basking red or black light in the corner and cooling off your house.

Also, are you sure he got out on his own? Do you have a cat? They will eat lizards.

...and please watch where you sit. I've known people who have last theirs and found them months laters in the couch cushions, etc. They will go into all sorts of little crevices in the house.

You could try setting a few traps in several rooms, put some crickets into a container with a ramp, just tall enough that the gecko can't get out, but won't hurt itself jumping into off the ramp. Leopards climb and jump (how else would they escape?) Good luck finding the little guy.

Try leaving a hot spot somewhere in the room so when he get's chilly he will go there to warm up and then maybe you can find him. Good luck!

Hey,

The exact same thing happened to me last year in July - August. I went to go feed my leo Anubis but he wasnt there. I looked all over the house tried putting flour down so that if he walked trough it I could follow the food prints. I also tried putting crickets in a cage in the my room, I was hoping that the sound of crickets chirping would attract him but I had no luck. Weeks went by and I had pretty much given up. I thought I would never see him again. Then this february my mom was in the bathroom brushing her teeth when she saw my gecko beside our bathroom cabinet. I had just got off ssnakess.com chat when she called me. I ran to the bathroom and sure enough there was Anubis. I couldn't believe he was still alive he had been missing for 6-7 months!deh-
yrated and extremely skinny. I gave hime some liquid calcium, water, other minerals and a few crickets. Although he didn't eat the crickets he drank for at least half an hour. The next day he ate and has been eating like a pig ever since and is now getting nice and fat!

My advice to you is try some of the above techniques including putting down flower, and linds' idea awell. Keep looking, look in warm spots like behind the T.V near the vent,andaround other you other reptiles heat sources. Good luck!

I would have a look around where all the warm, humid spots are first. Then if not there, creat a warm spot and turn off your heat in the house. He will find his way back to the warm spot you have made.
