Eye Caps + Pics

Ok I rescued two balls last week, I was not planning on keeping them but fell in love with them. "of course"

Anyway here are some pics of them, the first is the the male....I was told both where about year old.

The question I got is it looks like both of there eye caps have not come off in the last couple sheds......what would you all sugest doing to make sure that they do come off with the next shed?

THanks in advance!

Male Ball

Female

I think that the old sheds will fall off next time if the humidity is high enough.

In what size tank do you keep them?

Take them to the vet. I have a Rainbow that lost an eye under proper husbandry. Better to over react than under.

Rub a small amount of baby oil on the retained eye cap with a q-tip, and it should just fall off. If it does not, take them to the vet. A retained eye cap can cause problems.

Since they are rescues and I have not had a shed yet...I am not going to rush to the vet, I have cared for reptiles for well over 20 years and will take them if I feel then need to go! But since we dont have a vet anywhere close that has any idea what they are doing with reptiles I have to drive about 6 hours to go to the vet!

I will wiat and see what happens when they have a chance to shed with the proper humidity!

I got a couple of rescued ball pythons in a few months ago in similar condition but a tad worse. The two I got had old sheds still left on them!! When i picked them up they had no water in the bowl and had a lamp on them. I asked the guy when the last time he had checked on them he said over a week ago.

Anyhow, to the point. When I got home I soaked the snakes for about 20 minutes. That night the old sheds came off fine. If I were you I wouldn't over-react, but soon as they go blue, I would soak them in tepid water about 10 minutes a day until they shed. Hopefully the eyecaps will come off with the shed.

Good luck with them, they're nice snakes.

But if they don't comeoff with the shed, what do the vets do to relieve the situation? (I just posted a new post titled "Veterinary Optomologist for my BP"- please read and respond) Thanks.
