Can anyone identify this snake?

This snake was in the basement, the pictures was turned black and white to see the patterns better. The coloring was shades of black, grey, whitish, and I think brown. Location is around the western ny area. I can't find any snakes common to this area that look like this.

Re: Can anyone identify this snake?

It looks like it could be a juvenile black rat snake, but it's difficult to tell for certain with the picture.
