Help identifying these snakes

The black snake almost got a hold of the family dog (it was shot out of fear unfortunately). But i was wondering what kind of snake it was? As for the brown snake, it was caught and released unharmed. I was also wondering if someone could identify it as well. I am in Galveston county if that helps any.

The first one is a water snake, yellow bellied water snake I believe. Correction, I think the second is a rough earth snake. I can tell you with 100% certainty that they both are 100% harmless to you and your dogs. If you have pet frogs or earthworms they are in danger.

The second one strikes me as a Mexican Racer (Coluber constrictor oaxaca)

Not sure why shoot a snake, even if it's venomous...

The first is a Plainbelly Water Snake (Nerodia erythrogaster), the second is a Rough Earth Snake (Haldea striatula). Both are harmless. Very nice photos of the Rough Earth, thanks for sharing.

I came here to identify a snake very similar to the first one and I am waiting until I can post a photo link. Nice photo, the second one.
