Cave geckos - had something strange pop up, need opinions! :)
Hi everyone, I've posted this on a few groups over Facebook but can't seem to get any opinions really on what's actually happened. Hopefully I can get a better feedback from you guys.. here goes.
I've been breeding cave geckos (hainanensis and kuroiwae) for a few years now and this year I've had an anomaly pop up. G.kuroiwae are born black with orange bands either going horizontal or vertical down the body, these will normally turn yellow or gold as an adult against the dark background.
However this year I've had 5 out of 8 hatch out with completely white markings, along with no red pigment in the eyes... These 5 are now 7 months old and staying white it seems... There's no morphs so far within the G.kuroiwae so I've not got a lot to go off to find what's actually going on.
Incubation was 80-90 days at 22-24c.. all 8 hatched out and shed within the first day or 2 (most shed while in the incubator still) and they all started feeding within the first 2-4 days.
Any input or opinions are appreciated, I'll try and attach a couple of pics but my phone doesn't match well with this site for pics. 😀👍

Sounds like you found a new morph tbh. Keep them and breed them to prove it out. Since you have more than one try to breed one back to a sibling, one to a parent, and one to an unrelated normal and see what happens. =)
Really looking forward to pics though!

Is this a new pairing, or one that has produced just normal babies before?

I'm curious on what the body colour is and if it's changed at all.
Where did you get this new breeding pair? Wild caught?

No not wild caught, from a breeder who I contacted when they came out like this... he's never had it happen himself.
The main body colour is pretty much the same as the normals ones, I'll get the laptop out when I get back and hopefully show you guys some photos.

Ask him if he has any lineage of where the parents of these came from.
It's possible it's just this one year but it's odd to have 5/8 exhibit the same traits and it be incubation issues.
Breed the same pair again next year and see if it happens again!
It very well could be a neat trait that's inheritable and your pair somehow "broke" the genetics and they come out with these cool white markings.
P.S. I want 2.4

It's the lack of pigment in the eyes too that make me think Anery...

I would agree. The body looks just the same which is purple-y. Purple is produced by melanin which makes dark pigments so it would all make sense.
I would say Anery or Axanthic. I can't remember the exact definition of them but they do essentially the same thing.
I want 2.4 in case you didn't know....

Lmao, I notice you may want 2.4..
You can be first on the list for when they eventually go for sale if you like, however shipping to America is something I've no idea on how to do. No doubt pricey, but you probably know that lol.
No idea what axanthic is either, im really not a morph guy at all.
