So I was playing with my male corn snake and he was very active. Much more than usual! I thought it was great seeing that he and his mate has been rather boring these days ...

After a good 20 minute play with him, he took poop on me! Like A REAL STINKY poop! It was so gross! It smelled and it was like really yucky ...

I'm new to keeping snakes, so I just want to ask if this is common? Do they really not care where they poop?

He also sneezed on me but that was just rather cute

... but I really, that poop he took on me :O It's nasty. I feel like I never want to play with him again.

Hahaha yeah it's not exactly uncommon. I have one that's guaranteed to poop on you every time. I've had my bigger retic girl pee all over me which was great fun. The worst was my albino Chinese beauty male when he started to wander behind the furniture and I grabbed him to keep him from getting behind it completely. Must have startled him because he spray poop everywhere. That was not fun at all to clean up and smelled beyond horrible.

I guess I have been lucky! I have never been pooped on... Before I got Fred I had read an article how bad Taiwanese beauty snakes poop is; It's the worse poop out there... I thought how bad can it be right? Oh my god! It's like somebody dumped a bowl of watery chili upside down in his cage... And the smell !!! You can clean it fast enough.... Fun, fun, fun...

Yeah my beauty snakes have the worst smelling poop. I've been looking into doing bioactive for them to reduce the smell though if they have a humid hide they tend to go in the hide. At least the two that I have humid hides in do. Like having litter trained snakes lol

You can better your odds by figuring out about how long it takes your corn to digest and poop out his most recent meal. If it's about time and you haven't seen poop appear in his cage, you know he might need to go.

The best clue is to look for what I call "poopy butt." Not the scientific term I'm sure....

Right above his vent you'll see a bulge. A good example of this is in the General Python thread "Cuddles the Woma Python" page 9 especially the last picture. If you see that, you know he's locked and loaded.

Made the mistake of putting my snake on the bed while she was loaded. It was horrible. Now I only take her away from the enclosure if she's between her last poop and the next feed. Otherwise, she doesn't get to be above anything I care about.

I tried that but two nights ago it shat on me again :/

I didn't know he would poop so quickly after eating. He ate a two mice (a big one and a medium sized) a week ago. Before that he hadn't eaten in 3 weeks, so I'm really amazed he could poop it out so quickly.

Usually 2 or 3 days after eating they start passing stool. Corns have a relatively fast metabolism so it doesn't take them long.

Usually my corn will have to poop after being out for 5 minutes or so. She spends much of her day just "sitting" in her cage, and once she get some exercise BOOM! Here comes the poop.

I have gotten pretty good at judging when she's going to go (and I either run to the garbage bin or toilet with her, whichever's closest, ha).

How do I tell?

Corn snakes get a fairly distinct "bulge" just above their vent when they have to go. They also get unusually calm. Mine will suddenly go from extremely active (she's always extremely active) to very calm and docile when she has to poop. Also watch for the tail going up - once they stick it up in the air you've only got 5-10 seconds before a poop.

Yep - my first snake was a corn who had the uncanny ability to hold on until we had just changed the bed sheets.

Every time we had her out on clean bedding away she went!

I have to update y'all again.

It's been 3 weeks since I fed my corn snakes with a medium sized mouse(was actually quite big) and a small (but not a pinkie!).

I wanted to feed them tonight but didn't have the chance, so I really didn't think that they would still have poop inside of them.

I played with my male corn snake and after a good 10 minutes hiding inside of my tshirt, he took a poop! Again! I mean, it's always this snake that poops on me! My female snake has never done it, but this guy has done it 3 times now! And I've only had them since october :/

I thought it only took a few days for them to poop out their meal ... so how come it took 3 weeks this time?

PS! They're both 6 or 7 years old.

Well... I see I commented on this tread back at 10/15/16... This was before Leon, who took a big dump on me a little while back... Yea... I try to do the digestive timing thing now and I check their butt as so as I pick them up... Poop on me once, shame on him... Poop on me twice, shame on me...

I am not saying anything. I commented on a thread where their snake pee'd on them and I stupidly posted 'I must be lucky, I've not had that experience yet' and that evening my banana bp pee'd on me, so I'm keeping my mouth shut this time LOL

They have "leftovers" in them for a few weeks. Thats why if you brumate your snakes then you must wait a few weeks after the last meal so they pass everything.
